Northwestern students

Therapy for Northwestern students

Weekly therapy off campus, in Evanston or online, with a practice whose main population is college students and young adults — and your NU-SHIP covers it.

Your NU-SHIP covers this

The Northwestern Student Health Insurance Plan is administered by Aetna, and Mindtude is in network with Aetna. That means you are using your in-network mental health benefit, not paying out of pocket and hoping for reimbursement.

What you owe per session depends on your plan year’s deductible and copay. Send us your member ID before you book and we will check it and tell you the number — Northwestern’s Student Insurance office (opens in a new tab) is the authority on your plan’s current rules.

How we check your coverage

If you are in crisis right now, call or text 988 or go to the nearest emergency department. This page is about ongoing therapy, which is a different thing from an emergency.

What students actually come in with

Academic stress

Quarters that move faster than you can recover between them, and a workload that stopped feeling survivable.

Anxiety

The version that shows up before seminars, in labs, on the Metra, and at 2am the night before a deadline.

Identity and belonging

Impostor feelings, being the first in your family here, or arriving from another country and rebuilding a whole life at once.

ADHD

Structure that worked in high school and does not survive a quarter system.

Relationships

Roommates, partners, advisors, and family who are several time zones away.

Transitions

First year, the year abroad, the last quarter, and whatever is supposed to come after it.

You do not need a diagnosis, or the right words for it, before getting in touch. Everything we treat goes into more detail.

Why this practice, specifically

  • Fifteen-plus years across behavioural health hospital, community mental health and private practice settings.
  • College students and young adults are the practice's main population — not a sideline.
  • In person in Evanston, or online anywhere in Illinois, including from home over the break.

Sessions that fit a quarter system

Sessions run weekly to start, in person in Evanston or by video. Because we are licensed in Illinois, video sessions work anywhere in the state — so a co-op in the city, or a quarter spent living at home, does not mean starting over with someone new. Reading week and finals are usually when people most want to keep the appointment, and that is the point of having one.
